In preparation for our Club's 40th anniversary next year, we are preparing a plaque to recognize the original charter members of the club. The plaque will be presented to the Club at the upcoming Paul Harris Night in September.

In July, we recognized this year's John Leeds Award winners and their parents. Pictured below are Maryjean Bissell, Danielle Hering, and Lucas Sparta with their parents and our own President, Robert McGuire.

Ah, summer is a beautiful time. Sunny days, hot & humid nights. A wonderful time to come out once a week for a Rotary meeting. Remember, when you travel on vacation, it's a great time to make up a meeting at a local Rotary club in the town or locale where you are visiting. If you are really going a long ways away, be sure to take a Rotary banner from our club to give to the club where you are visiting.

Tonight we welcomed Charles back from his travels abroad. Specifically, he has been working with an international firm on setting up a ski resort in Kazahkstan. For those that are interested, here is the link to some pictures of the town and resort where the project is located: http://www.almadf.kz/english/medeu.html. Charles promised a more in-depth presentation in a few weeks.

We have a number of potential speaker programs that we are looking to schedule for the next few weeks and months. If anyone has an idea for a program - and there can be many - just drop an e-mail to mcguire@warwick.net.

This blog will become an excellent way to promote our Club. You might consider putting the link to this blog as part of your e-mail "signature" to reach out to friends and business contacts who might be interested in learning more about Rotary.

Last week, the Club voted to make a donation to Erin Calahin, a 9 year-old girl in Vernon Township who is battling leukemia. Her family has started a blog of their own on a site called Caring Bridge - link provided here - http://www.caringbridge.org/cb/viewHome.do. This is terrific way to see how she is doing and, it should be added, she is doing well so far. Let's keep Erin in our thoughts and prayers.

In other news, DASI (Domestic Abuse Services, Inc.) has let us know that transitional housing building will be open towards the end of August. The Club is sponsoring Apartment #3. This is an important facility for DASI as it will allow them to provide safe, clean, secure housing for mothers and children seeking shelter from abusive situations at home. Several Club members have offered to donate furniture and appliances to help furnish this apartment; those members will be contacted towards the end of the month to coordinate the pickup of their items. Thanks to Theresa Vihti for heading this effort up with regard to our contribution to this program.

A reminder here - District Governor George Mitola will be visiting with us on September 18.
