Happy Thanksgiving to all! Hopefully it was an enjoyable time and we did not eat too much.
It's been awhile since the blog has been updated, so here are a few things. DG George Mitola joined us on October 30 for an interesting evening. His wife, Shirley, was with him. He gave us an overview of RI President Wilf Wilkerson's goals for 2007-2008 and then talked about the issues facing the District. One of the biggest is membership, but this turns out to be a key issue for many service organizations these days.
DASI (Domestic Abuse Services Inc.) is in the process of opening their transitional housing. The Club has sponsored one of the rooms and we had the pick up on November 17. Shortly there will be the finishing touches with the official dedication in the Spring. Thanks to Teresa Vihti for her efforts on this project. Also, thanks to Chipper McLellan for Mountain Creek's generous furniture and accessory donations to this project.
The Club was approached by a family in Vernon whose son has cerebral palsy about helping them with a lift in their home to enable their son to go from the entrance floor of their home to the living floor. As their son has gotten older, they are finding it increasingly difficult to carry him up the short flight of stairs. Vinny Zinno has generously donated his time to help scope the project and also to help recommend a lift that would suit their needs. Next step is to figure out how to help them with the money required.
On that note, congratulations to Vinny on receiving his Paul Harris Fellowship.
Lisa Dalessio announced the annual toy drive that Weichert Realtors conducts every year. New, unopened toys can be dropped off at either the Vernon or Hamburg Weichert offices. On December 6, there will be pictures with Santa at the Hamburg office.
The Golf Committee informed us that the 1st Annual Amos Phillips Scholarship Golf Outing will be held on May 2, 2008 at Wild Turkey in Crystal Springs. Start planning those foursomes and Tee signs!
